In this adaptation of the cult TV series, the evil Dr. Clayton Forrester locks his test subject Mike Nelson and his two robot companions Crow and Tom Servo in a spacecraft to watch terrible low-budget movies as part of his scheme to conquer the world. This particular experiment features 1955’s THIS ISLAND EARTH, a colorful and goofy sci-fi spectacle.
Mixed test screenings and clueless producers insisting on cuts made the big-screen outing of the cult comedy show feel like a missed opportunity. This fanedit restores the removed or replaced “host segments” and several minutes of deleted “riffing”, enhanced visually by using a clean copy of THIS ISLAND EARTH. I’m planning on revisiting this edit with new, better techniques for restoring VHS material.
